国内女子ツアー「フジサンケイレディスクラシック」が静岡県にある川奈ホテルゴルフコース 富士コースで開幕した。この日は川奈らしくない風が穏やかなコンディション。そんな中、未だエンジンがかからない横峯さくらが2アンダーの7位タイと上々のスタートを切った。
横峯は3番パー4でボギーが先行するも前半はガマンを重ね1オーバーでハーフターン。すると11番パー3でバーディ、さらに14番、16番、17番と立て続けにバーディを奪いスコアを伸ばしていく。難関の最終18番はボギーとし一歩後退したものの「最後はもったいなかったですが、良いスタートが切れました」と納得のコメントを残した。
この日は今季課題としているパッティングも決まりリズム良くプレーを続けた横峯。難関川奈で今季初のさくらスマイルを咲かせることが出来るか。

愛知県にある三好カントリー倶楽部を舞台に開幕した国内男子ツアー「コカ・コーラ東海クラシック」初日。5バーディ・1ボギーの68をマークした高山忠洋が4アンダーで単独首位発進。1打差の2位タイには好調の金亨成(キム・ヒョンソン)(韓国)、貞方章男、平塚哲二の3選手がつけた。賞金ランク現在首位を走る藤田寛之はホストプロの深堀圭一郎、池田勇太、石川遼らと並んで1オーバー35位タイとなっている。

高山は10番ティからスタート。12番パー5でバーディを先行させるが、14番ではこの日唯一のボギーを叩いてしまう。しかし続く15番パー5で取り返すと、16番パー3ではティショットを3メートルにつけバーディ。後半に入っても2つのパー5できっちり伸ばし、首位に立った。
高山は昨年は賞金ランキング2位に入るなど、活躍したが今季は開幕してから持病の左手首痛に悩まされ続けてきた。しかし、この日は4つのパー5ですべてバーディを奪取。「手の状態は大丈夫。気持ちだけは前を向いてやったことがナイスラウンドにつながった」と喜んだ。しかし、「本当はトップに立ちながらではなくコソっと行きたかったんですけどね。明日からも目立たず騒がず行きたい」と控えめにコメント。昨年大会では2位でフィニッシュと相性は悪くない。このまま左手首の痛みが出ずに、残り3日間プレーできるか。

愛知県にある三好カントリー倶楽部を舞台に開幕した国内男子ツアー「コカ・コーラ東海クラシック」初日。この大会の09年覇者の石川遼は初日、5バーディ・6ボギーの1オーバーでホールアウトした。
石川は出だし10番でティショットをラフに入れると、セカンドはグリーンに届かず花道へ。そこから寄らず入らずのボギー発進としてしまう。15番パー5ではバーディを奪取するが、16番、17番で連続ボギーとし2オーバーで折り返す。

後半に入っても1番でボギーが先行。2番パー5で取り返したものの、3番でスコアを落とすと、6番ではバンカーショットをミス。長いパーパットを決めきれず6つ目のボギー。このまま悪い流れを断ち切れずに終わってしまうかと思われたが、7番2メートルのバーディパットを決め、ここから息を吹き返す。8番のパー3では5番ウッドで1.5メートルにつけ、続く最終9番でも4メートルをねじ込み3連続バーディ締め。前半はショットもぶれ、パットも打ち切れなかったが、「7、8、9番ではいいパッティングができた」と明日につながる終わり方で初日を終えた。
石川は首位と5打差の35位タイ。6打差以内に60選手がひしめく混戦となっており、「ずっとこの状況が続くと思います。明日、伸ばせればまだ優勝争いにからむことができる」と焦りはない。この日はティショットが左にそのまま真っすぐ出てしまうミスが出ていたが、「原因は分かっている」とラウンド後の練習で修正。最近では「スイングが良くなってきている。体もついてきたし、作れてきた」とさらに飛距離を伸ばせる手ごたえをつかんできている。このコースではフェアウェイキープが第一としながらも「飛距離も求めないとスイングが縮こまってしまう」と深いラフを恐れず、さらなる進化も目指す。
思い切りのいいゴルフは、多くのファンを魅了した石川の持ち味。しかし、ここ最近は「コースでは縮こまってしまう印象」だったという石川。自らの殻を破り、久しぶりの栄冠を手にするためにも、明日は三好に真正面からぶつかっていく。

現時点で首位は7ホールを消化し、トータル4アンダーとしたキム・ヒョンソン(韓国)。INコースからスタートした池田勇太も前半を終え、2オーバー39位タイグループとなっている。

Airsoft Holsters for Airsoft Pistols
As an airsoft player, it is important that you have more to fall back on than just your primary airsoft gun. What if it runs out of ammunition, but you are still in the middle of a battle? You need something else you can pull out quickly, and a pistol in a holster is your best bet for something quick and easy to reach. There have been plenty of instances where airsoft teams have lost simply because they did not have this capability, although once you feel the sting of defeat because of this issue, one usually learns to change their behavior. Thankfully it is not hard at all to make sure you have something to back you up, as long as you take the tips outlined here into account.
The sidearm that most people think of is an airsoft pistol. This is definitely a great sidearm, but you can make it a lot more effective through the use of airsoft holsters. Holsters are not limited to just pistols though. More players are starting to use smaller airsoft rifles, like MP5s, as their sidearm. There are obvious benefits to this, such as being able to use a similar amount of power as your primary has, without greatly increasing the amount of weight you have to lug around. While holsters are designed for airsoft pistols, you can still modify them or get a special one so you can hold something larger.
While you can purchase standalone airsoft holsters, this is not completely necessary. Sometimes when you get a tactical vest, in fact most of the time, they come with holsters. These are just as good as any holster you would purchase alone, so you can take out two birds with one stone by following this course of action. And since tactical airsoft vests have other capabilities besides just the holster, this is something you should seriously consider

Most vests also do not have specialized holsters, so if you want to get a larger one for something like an MP5, then you would need to buy it separately. Is the Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito bout more hyped up than what it really is?
In less than four days, one of the most prolific fighters of the decade will step into the ring and try to add another belt to his already large portfolio of domination. Manny Pacquiao, the world champion in 7 different weight classes, will once again try to stave off defeat against the once highly touted Mexican boxer, Antonio Margarito.
There is one question however, that people are more interested in, and that is wether this will actually be a fight for the ages? Can a "People's Champion" dominate the once highly regarded pound for pound fighter in Margarito? Or is this simply going to be another long and boring fight the world witnessed when Pacquiao met with Clottey?
Antonio Margarito was once revelled as the next great Mexican fighter, but after being caught cheating with illegal hand wraps and being banned from boxing for more than 2 years, can he really bounce back? It's hard to believe the boxing world would even consider such fight to happen, especially since this would be Margarito's first fight back after being banned. There is plenty of skepticism if he can even keep up with the speed Pacquiao carries with him when he steps into the ring. There are others of course, who will state that Margarito's 3 inch height advantage, and 3 inch reach, can more than make up for the speed and hit percentage Pacquiao has to offer.
The world has kept a close eye on Pacquiao, especially now that he has entered the political ring in the Philippines. There is skeptics out there who believe Manny's busy schedule has hindered his normal training regimen more than ever. Freddy Roach has even stated that he is no where near where he usually is in the last two weeks prior to his fights. I for one, am still questioning whether Pacquiao can be the "Mexican Executioner" he once was.
On November 13, 2010 from Cowboy's Stadium in Dallas Texas, the whole world will watch as the greatest fighter of our time steps into the ring against a much larger, hungrier, and desperate Antonio Margarito. Watch Pacquiao vs Margarito Live this Saturday!

Niche sports finally catered for
The nation’s favourite sports nowadays seem to be the ones we see mostly being televised. Football sees the lion’s share of viewers and participants, with rugby being the second most watched and played sport in the country. In kind many of the retailers choose to stock items relevant to these sports, offering low cost, low quality equipment for all ages. While this is enough to appeal to the majority of our sporting community, it ignores many sports in favour of those two. Sure, you can buy running clothes and shoes at these sorts of sport retailers but if you were to undertake in a much more niche sport such as badminton, you may find your sporting needs not catered to.
This leaves it up to lesser known retailers to try to fill the gap, but due to their niche appeal we may find it difficult to even find such shops on the high street. Even if we do find them, because of the competitive nature of the industry and because of their disadvantaged financial position relative to other sports retailers, the prices can sometimes be huge, almost unfair in some cases. Because of this more and more people tend to find themselves turning towards the world of online retailing to get their products, and it’s easy to see why.
Firstly, there is no travel required on behalf of us as customers as most of these retailers deliver to your door personally, or send it out via mail, depending on the size of the order. It also costs less for us to buy our products than the high street shops and you can find everything you might need for your sport in the same place. Because its often all on the same website it can be a massive time saver if you need to order products for more than one sport, which is much better than having to scout out many specialist shops in the high street. When you consider how much time, money and effort you save from ordering from home it seems you can’t afford not to do it, which would lead to an increasing dwindling in the amount of major sports stores who only seem to cater for the more popular sports, giving other businesses in the industry a chance to grow.

You have to choose your shot, dial in upon your target, take a practice swing so as to feel your intended shot and then set up to the ball and commit to hitting that ball towards your target. Basketball - New York Knicks 2006-07 Preview
One of the biggest disasters in all of sports in recent history, the Knicks have to prove that their enormous payroll can win games or face a not-so-good future. With most of their money locked up with selfish swing men new head coach Isiah Thomas will have his hands full trying to fulfill New York fan expectations.
The most talented player on the Knicks is point guard Stephon Marbury. The problem with Marbury is that he is often too selfish for a point guard and usually finishes on losing teams because of his attitude. It is hard to imagine the Knicks succeeding if Isiah can’t get Marbury to start playing team basketball. Behind Marbury is young, and short, Nate Robinson. Nate is a good option off the bench and can score points, but his size makes him a serious defensive liability.
At the two position are Jamal Crawford and Steve Francis. Both players are selfish shoot-first players with a lot of talent. Both players also have to find a way to be more effective in scoring. Expect the two to share time unless one of them emerges as a reliable option game in and game out.
The forward positions are filled by Jared Jeffries, Quentin Richardson, David Lee and Channing Frye. Of the four, Frye is the one with the brightest future as a Knick. Channing had a great rookie season, averaging 12.3 points and 5.8 rebounds a game and should expand upon those numbers with a year under his belt. Jeffries was acquired from the Wizards and the Knicks are hoping that he will bring toughness and defense to a team without either.
Finally at the center position is Eddy Curry, who once was referred to as a possible second coming of Shaq. Curry is not one of the brightest players in the league, but should be able to score in the paint enough to help the Knicks stay balanced. Right now, it is a pretty safe bet that the Knicks are regretting trading their picks for him.

The expectations for him coming into this season are nothing short than at least 20 points and 12 rebounds a game, and he should have no problem reaching these numbers.
Next to Howard will be former Piston Darko Milicic. Darko has yet to play a season with consistent minutes, but should get his chance in 2006. His play in Europe has excited management and fans alike, but Darko will have to prove that he can perform in the NBA for the Magic to establish themselves as a playoff contender.
At the guard positions are young players Jameer Nelson and J.J. Redick. Redick is a rookie who has to prove that he can do more than just shoot the three pointer, as his one-dimensional play in college was a reason why he wasn’t drafted higher despite averaging over thirty points a game. Nelson is a quick, small guard who can explode for points and impressed the sports nation in his second year in the league last season.
At the small forward position is Hedo Turkoglu. He averaged 14.9 points per game last season, and should be good for the same amount once again this year. He is also a veteran player who should be able to mentor fellow European player Darko Milicic.

Martial Arts - What A Black Belt Means To Me - The Journey
It’s often said in Martial Arts that the meaning doesn’t lie in how good you are or what belt you have, rather the meaning lies in the journey. Before I get into “What Black Belt Means To Me”, I would like to talk about my journey of these past few months.
The Journey
Last week I had flown to Nashville to test for my long awaited San Dan (3rd degree Black Belt - This is kind of like becoming an official “Teacher”). Prior to the test I had been training consistently since April of this year at a friends dojo and my local gym.
It had been about 5 years since I’ve last practiced my discipline, Wado-Ryu Karate-Do, so my recollection of the system was very vague. After watching numerous tapes of myself as a young martial artist, I had re-learned my under belt curriculum, however I was struggling to remember my black belt curriculum. If you know anything about martial arts, one’s under belt knowledge is essential because it is considered as the foundation of one’s training. On the other hand, a lot of people believe that your training truly begins when you achieve your first black belt. I couldn’t agree more. When I was promoted to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) my interpretation about Wado-Ryu and the martial arts had grown dramatically and I began to really learn.
Either way, I needed to know everything that could have possibly been thrown at me because it had been 10 years since my last official test.
In July, I went to Nashville to train with my highly recognized and beloved instructor Sensei Wayne Tyler. I consider him as a father figure in my martial arts career because of his vast knowledge of Wado-Ryu and unconditional love for his students and the art. Imagine being a scientist and your teacher was Albert Einstein – that is what it feels like to be under the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, as I call him). I was in Nashville training with Sensei 2 – 3 hours per day for 5 days. I caught up on my curriculum and took the extra knowledge that was passed down by him and applied it to my training back in Denver.
Again, since I didn’t know what to expect, I conditioned myself to be ready for almost anything. Not only was I practicing my basics and katas (Japanese forms), but I was also running 2 miles, three days per week, 15 – 20 minutes on the rowing machine and about 6 – 7 miles on the stationary bike. I don’t think I could have been more prepared for this test.
I successfully passed my test and was promoted to San Dan on October 17th 2006. I must say, this was one of my greatest accomplishments in my martial arts career and a dream come true. It has taken me several years to reach this goal, but it has reinforced my interpretation of being a black belt, or in my case – San Dan.

After watching numerous tapes of myself as a young martial artist, I had re-learned my under belt curriculum, however I was struggling to remember my black belt curriculum. If you know anything about martial arts, one’s under belt knowledge is essential because it is considered as the foundation of one’s training. On the other hand, a lot of people believe that your training truly begins when you achieve your first black belt. I couldn’t agree more. When I was promoted to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) my interpretation about Wado-Ryu and the martial arts had grown dramatically and I began to really learn.
Either way, I needed to know everything that could have possibly been thrown at me because it had been 10 years since my last official test.
In July, I went to Nashville to train with my highly recognized and beloved instructor Sensei Wayne Tyler. I consider him as a father figure in my martial arts career because of his vast knowledge of Wado-Ryu and unconditional love for his students and the art. Imagine being a scientist and your teacher was Albert Einstein – that is what it feels like to be under the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, as I call him). I was in Nashville training with Sensei 2 – 3 hours per day for 5 days. I caught up on my curriculum and took the extra knowledge that was passed down by him and applied it to my training back in Denver.
Again, since I didn’t know what to expect, I conditioned myself to be ready for almost anything. Not only was I practicing my basics and katas (Japanese forms), but I was also running 2 miles, three days per week, 15 – 20 minutes on the rowing machine and about 6 – 7 miles on the stationary bike. I don’t think I could have been more prepared for this test.
I successfully passed my test and was promoted to San Dan on October 17th 2006. I must say, this was one of my greatest accomplishments in my martial arts career and a dream come true. It has taken me several years to reach this goal, but it has reinforced my interpretation of being a black belt, or in my case – San Dan.

In striking fashion, Pelican Hill in Southern California has completed its transformation from a thirty-six-hole complex with no accommodations to a world-class golf resort. The first phase, Tom Fazio’s renovations to his two seaside courses, was unveiled in 2007. Now comes the exquisite new Resort at Pelican Hill.
The facility, about an hour south of Los Angeles, is modeled after an Italian hillside village, complete with fountains, terra-cotta-tiled roofs and century-old olive trees. There are two types of lodging: single-story bungalows terraced above the ocean, and larger villas perched higher up on a bluff. Gourmet dining is available in three restaurants (one of which specializes in Tuscan fare), a clubhouse and a poolside loggia. The Italian fantasy is complete.

I found the sixth and seventh to be the showstoppers of the opening nine. The former is a par three of 175 yards that plays from an elevated tee over a sharp elbow of tidal wetland to a green that looks no bigger than the hood of Tiger Woods’s courtesy Buick. All tee shots here are hold-your-breath moments.
But to my mind, the enduring mark of a great designer is whether he can create a short par four with enough imagination and options to make you stand on the tee and scratch your head a bit before you play the hole. That’s brilliantly the case at May River’s par-four seventh, which for most players is a mere alligator’s snout over three hundred yards and requires you to throttle back to a low iron or rescue club off the tee, then sculpt a careful sand wedge to a sliver of green fronted by a pair of deep, punishing bunkers.
Given such abundant beauty, most designers would prefer to save their most dramatic landforms for a finale—and in this instance Jack Nicklaus is no exception. The back nine opens with an imposing par five that requires two stout shots to a pair of island fairways, precedes to a little bandbox of a par three in the lee of a sunlit lagoon, then sends you into six of the toughest—yet most beguiling—holes you’ll ever play.
As the tidal shores of the May River and some of the most fertile oyster beds in the world swing back into view, it’s tempting to become distracted by the scenery and lose track of your game. Gloriously backlit in the waning daylight, we found the difficult par-five fifteenth to be just about everything God and a Golden Bear could throw at a nature-loving golfer: wetlands, steep falloffs into nicely unkempt sandy waste areas, hissing grasslands where who knows what was lurking, fairway bunkers meant to be avoided at all cost, and finally, a false-fronted Redan-style green that made getting close to the flag all but impossible. I was greatly relieved to garner my gentlemanly bogey and hurry on with the encroaching darkness.
Suddenly I could fathom why Jack’s concluding hole lay so serenely and simply on the landscape. As you emerge back into sight of the handsome green-shingled clubhouse, recalling hunting lodges from the South’s time as a private playground for elite sportsmen, you play down a slight rise to a generous finishing green, negotiating the gentlest par five on the course. It’s almost as if Jack is congratulating you for braving a walk on the wilder side of his imagination.
That evening we dined at the River House on Chef Christopher Blobaum’s robust she-crab bisque and a seasoned Lowcountry grouper with bacon risotto. It almost felt like an illicit pleasure to drink a creamy white viognier and replay our day’s adventures to an older couple at an adjoining table, who had just arrived for a few days away from the seesawing stock markets and presidential debates.
After we’d filled them in on everything—from the most wildlife-friendly golf course we’d ever played, to the thrill of watching hundreds of snowy egrets and cormorants glide in on evening breezes and fill the wild fig trees by the lagoon near our cottage—the man told us an amusing story.
“I know a guy who was so eager to play May River he booked a night at the Inn just so he could have access to the course,” he said slyly. “He glanced in his cottage, collected his free bottle of wine, played the course and then went home. All told it cost him $700 for his round.” The man gave a broad smile.
“He was so impressed,” injected the woman, winking, “he came back with his wife and actually stayed at the Inn.”
“Smart man,” spoke up my golf bride, looking out to where the evening bonfires were being lit, fixing her gaze as if this magical place might vanish like Brigadoon in a Lowcountry instant.
Taking it to the house at Winged Foot
I’ve been a member At Winged Foot since 1961, when I was sponsored by my friend and employer at the time Wellington Mara, who owned the New York Giants. I still can’t get over the beauty of the place. My favorite hole is the tenth on the West Course, a 190-yard par three called Pulpit. It’s a gorgeous hole, and tough as hell, even for the pros. There are deep bunkers on either side of the oblong green and a bunker in front, and if you hit it long you’re likely to be out of bounds. Every time I play it, I stop to soak in the peacefulness of the scene: the huge trees behind and left of the green, the big elm looming over the back tee.
I must admit, though, that I also have a particular fondness for the par-three third on the East—the only hole I’ve ever aced. I was playing with Don Meredith in the early seventies, when we’d just started doing Monday Night Football. It was early morning, and we were staring into the sun. I didn’t see the shot. “Where’d it go?” I asked him. “I think you went over, Shake,” he said. When we reached the green, I walked straight to the back to look for my ball. Suddenly I heard Don say, “Son of a bitch!” and then he pulled my ball out of the cup. So I’d missed seeing my only hole in one. Only one so far, anyway. You never know. I might have another one in me yet. That’s why I love golf: It’s the only game where you initiate everything. In football, you’re reacting to everything. In golf, you can’t blame anyone but yourself.
